Construction Beginning on East Phase Of Main Remade Project in Downtown Louisville
Construction begins today, Monday, June 2, on the one-way to two-way conversion of U.S. 31E (Main Street) in downtown Louisville – part of the first, or “East Phase” of the Main Remade project. Main Remade is a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) project that will enhance safety and improve accessibility along one of downtown Louisville’s key business, residential, and tourism corridors.
The East Phase of the highway safety improvement project will convert Main Street from a one-way street to a two-way street between Wenzel Street and 2nd Street. In addition to the new two-way configuration, other improvements coming to the corridor include upgrades to crosswalks and intersections, a protected bike lane, dedicated left-turn lanes, and new traffic signals.
This week’s initial work includes curbing and constructing sidewalks. Motorists should expect changing traffic patterns, lane shifts, and lane closures as construction progresses. Last week, signs notifying drivers of the upcoming work were placed in the area. Drivers should obey restrictions and drive cautiously through the construction zone. Additional updates regarding traffic impacts will be shared via KYTC District 5’s weekly Roadshow report.
MAC Construction and Excavating, of New Albany, IN, was awarded the $5.4 million contract for the work. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the Spring of 2026.
